Village tomatoes are called village tomatoes, weighing between 250-400 grams, juicy, with high taste and aroma, slightly rounded in some regions, with few slices and generally grown on the ground without poles, planted in the highlands and interior regions in the spring in May.
In our country, greenhouse tomatoes have been used in production for many years, generally as tomatoes of 170-190 grams. These types of greenhouse tomatoes are still called single season and grown between October and June. In the last 5-6 years, many different types and colors of tomato varieties ( beef , cluster , cocktail , cherry , seat , pink , brown tomatoes ) have been developed.
In Finike, the coastal part of Antalya, when I was a child, we used to consume our own tomatoes that we grew in the greenhouse until June and July. Then, large village tomatoes called “Ankon” would come from Elmalı, which is a highland district.
Although we have regular tomatoes (180 g) in our greenhouses, we used to buy delicious, large, juicy highland tomatoes from the market and consume them. We used to make tomato paste from tomatoes grown in the greenhouse, since it was the end of the season. Therefore, when tomatoes are mentioned in our country, juicy, large, delicious, different taste and aroma, fragrant village tomatoes come to mind in summer.
